Hi David,

I took a look at the (mucho skimpy) help files and tried setting up an IF NOT rule, it didn't seem workable. And they don't allow wildcards etc. Sorry, but it looks like you can only do it the other way around (all emails from so and so or some-domain forward to blah), sadly. I could be wrong though http://www.emailaddresses.com/ubb/smile.gif

Question MyRealBox and "if not" rules

Is it possible to set up the "Rules" in MyRealBox for an "if not" condition? As in, "If sender's address is not johndoe1234@yahoo.com forward to johnsmith@aol.com" MailandNews makes this sort of thing simple but I can't find anything equivalent in MyRealBox.

Thanks,
David P.

Dear Nikolaos,

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you're right. I also can't set up a provisional autoreply. I have the "Mailto:" links in my web site set for my MailandNews account; the links themselves are set up to automatically insert a default subject. The MailandNews autoresponder selects a reply based on keywords in the "subject" line. I wish MyRealBox could do this. Maybe if I send a "wish list" to support? http://www.emailaddresses.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for trying,
David P.

Dear Nikolaos,

POP retrieval with MyRealBox isn't working, in spite of several test messages. Is there some trick to it that I don't know? I can retrieve messages from the account in question using other services, so I know it can be done, but with not MyRealBox. Also, if you know of a good free service that will retrieve mail from a POP account and forward it to another address, let me know.

Best wishes,
David P.

hmm. that's odd. i've never used the facility so i don't know for sure. however, off the top of my head, there *is* a passage in the myrealbox FAQ somewhere on the site that states that their POP polling is not continuous. They only collect mail at certain intervals, then forward it all together. So perhaps you are seeing this delay interval. Other than that, if you are completely not getting any of the mail at all, then i am not sure what it could be. An email to tech support may help you... *fingers crossed* http://www.emailaddresses.com/ubb/smile.gif

again, this is not a service i use. my bad habit is to collect a whole bunch of pop3 accounts and use them all separately *grin* however, here are two lists of some forwarding services (i don't know if they are pop-collector-forwarders though) which may be of use to you.

Dear Nikolaos,

I know about the delay in POP checking with MyRealBox; depending on where you get your information, the interval is supposed to be anywhere from 1 to 6 hours. Unfortunately, I'm talking about waiting a day or two with nothing to show for it.

Thanks for the URL's. I know Mail-X-Change will do the retrieve-and-forward thing for a fee ($10/year) but I'm broke and cheap. Right now, I'm trying MagicalDesk.com, which is supposed to provide a similar service for free, plus regular webmail, but my luck has been inconsistent. One nice thing: Support answered a question the same day, which is encouraging. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks again,
David P.

Dave, are you still having problems retrieving email on myrealbox?
I think you have the option of using IMAP or POP3 to retrieve email...
I am using POP3 and the setting for the incoming mail server is
imap.myrealbox.com.
Hope that helps. http://www.emailaddresses.com/ubb/smile.gif

Dear arfirebird,

What I was referring to was automatic retrieval from *other* POP accounts. Sorry I didn't make myself more clear. http://www.emailaddresses.com/ubb/frown.gif

Dear Nikolaos,

I actually (re)discovered MagicalDesk.com during a search of this site; I turned up a post from January, 2000. BTW, it turns out my inconsistent luck was due to a misunderstanding on my part: Yes, it *will* automatically retrieve and forward e-mail from external POP accounts (up to 2 for free with the option of paying to add more) but it will only do it when you actually check your e-mail, not periodically without user intervention like Mail-X-Change does or MyRealBox is supposed to do. Still, I figure since I only need to retrieve e-mail from a NetZero account we don't use much any more, I should be able to get by with checking it every few days.

Thanks again,
David P.

I'm having this problem, atm. Emails are delayed and take hours to arrive to my Inbox (in Outlook Express). Sometimes the next day it comes or never. The FAQ says nothing about an expected delay. So, it's still going on? At what hours should I expect it?

Thanks.

Novell is in the process of resolving some issues and bugs due to the upgrade of @myrealbox.com email service. So, till it becomes stable you can expect downtime often. So, I suggest you not to use it for any important and urgent email communication till the end of this month.

Dear sabrina00,

I was originally referring to the way MyRealBox.com retrieves messages from other POP and IMAP accounts. It automatically does this every 4-6 hours. Other providers that also do this AFAIK include Fastmail.fm and gmx.net (which is in German). Unfortunately, this doesn't have anything to do with being able to retrieve messages from MyRealBox.com itself. The service has had problems from time to time, and lately things have been especially bad. You can only be patient or find another account. Sorry I can't be more help.

Best wishes,
David P.
