You said earlier that everything works OK on the server. That implies a problem on your specific client or in the way your client interacts with the server. Have you tried this on any other client machine? That might help to narrow things down.

You also said earlier that there is no firewall installed. Is that no firewall on the client? no firewall on the server? no firewall on either? Even if no 3rd party firewall (e.g. ZoneAlarm, Norton Personal Firewall, etc.) is in play it's possible that Windows Internet Connection Firewall has been activated on your client. Check the Advanced tab on your Local Area Connection Properties to see if the "Protect my computer" check box is ticked.

Yes I would think that the problem is with my station or with connection from my comp to the server. I'm using win2000 so I don't think there's a windoes internet connection firewall in the system.

I'm lost for ideas here - hope you can help me out....

Cheers

A thought... Since you were able to send and receive using a browser on the server, have a look at the server's browser settings, specifically to see if a proxy server has been configured. If so, you should be able to use the same proxy settings on your client.

Regards, AB

P.S. While you are at it, you might do a search for socks.cfg on the server. It's possible that the server is using socks to get to external sites.

Have you tried one of the other client PCs to see if it is a general client problem or specific to your client?

Unfortunately I cannot get to try the other stations to see if it is a general problem. But I think that it may just be my station that is the problem because no one else ever had problems.

Perhaps the others haven't had problems because they have never tried doing the same things as you have. If they have, and were successful, then you have a clear cut case to call your support desk. All you need is a good reason to justify why access to FastMail from the office is business critical!

A few thoughts:

Perhaps try deleting any cookies related to FastMail/MessagingEngine and try again. It shouldn't make a difference, but it may help.

What actions can you do in the web interface? Are you able to move messages from folder to folder? Are you able to change anything in the Options screen? Are you able to alter your rules (try creating a useless rule, clicking done, and later deleting it)? These things may help narrow down the problem

Is there anything in your hosts file? On older versions of Windows it is located in the Windows directory.

For people more familiar with FastCheck: does this section of killedkenny's FastTest results have any bearing on this problem?

Didn't help to delete cookies.

In the web interface I can receive and read messages. I can't move messages, change rules or change anything else in the options screen.

My hosts file says: "127.0.0.1 localhost"

I got to try one of the "non server" stations here yesterday and I had the same problem with that one. So I guess the problem is between the stations and the server machine.

Thx loads for all your efforts guys. Pls keep the suggestions coming.

OK I have now found a solution to my problem that works. By downloading and activating HTTP-Tunnel client with socks 127.0.0.1 in port 180 I can now send mails and change preferences in Fastmail - Woohoo!!!

The problem now is that using the web through the HTTP-Tunnel is very slow since there's a limited bandwith with the use of the program. Given the fact that this worked do you guys have any suggestions to how I can make it work without the HTTP-Tunnel. I tried setting up a socks with Hummingbird but couldn't make it work.

Cheers,
Kenny

Kenny, make sure you have the latest version (Version 8) of Hummingbird and your socks.cfg should contain an entry like this...
Code:
SOCKD5 @=127.0.0.1:1080 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
assuming that your socks gateway is at IP 127.0.0.1, which seems to be the case.
